Willajoya (Joya) Hicks

University of West Georgia

Willajoya (Joya) Hicks is a professional mental health counselor in-training, currently enrolled as a graduate student at the
University of West Georgia, a CACREP accredited institution. The clinical supervision is
led by Brian Conner LPC, CPCS at Tanner at Willowbrooke. Joya holds a doctorate (Ph.D.)
in Disability Studies from Syracuse University and has over twenty years of experience
providing inclusive educational services for children, youth and adults, particularly those
with disabilities. Joya is currently providing therapeutic counseling for the same population,
using a wide variety of counseling techniques to help manage mental health wellness.
Primary types of therapy: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Psychodynamic Therapy.
