Post-Master's Program

The National Mental Health Workforce Acceleration Collaborative (NMHWAC) Post-Master’s Program aims to increase the number of qualified licensed mental health and substance use treatment clinicians while promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in patient-facing roles. The program supports organizations in employing and retaining staff on track for clinical licensure.

Child Counselor

The Post-Master’s Program is designed to support candidates who have graduated with their degree and are in the process of getting licensed.

The program aims to offset the cost of licensure in addition to providing support and supervision for candidates. It also focuses on increasing the number of patients served by post-master’s associates, enhancing diversity and inclusion among licensed professionals and improving the HRSA health professional shortage area scores.

Placement sites must agree to employ newly hired full-time employees (candidates) who hold a master’s degree and are candidates for clinical licensure. The positions can be newly created or existing unfilled roles, allowing candidates to obtain the required clinical experience hours.

The Post-Master’s Program includes providing monthly payments to sites to support candidate salaries, funding for clinical supervision (either through internal staff or Motivo), annual subscriptions to AATBS licensure exam preparation materials, reimbursement for licensure application fees, and training and technical assistance for sites and candidates.

The program tracks candidate progress, assessing barriers to clinical licensure in order to inform state-level advocacy and regulatory changes.
